Bio

I grew up in Barrie, Ontario. I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph in English Literature and Studio Art. I lived for two years in Banff, Alberta, where I worked in the curatorial capacity for The Banff Centre at The Walter Phillips Gallery and the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. I taught English in Northern Japan (Sendai) for one year, which provided me with international work experience and a global perspective. My family now lives in Fredericton New Brunswick. I am currently doing an MFA at Ryerson University in Documentary Media. I live in Toronto’s Roncesvalles Village with my boyfriend and dog.

My thesis project will be a photographic exhibition on Roncesvalles Village, better known as Little Poland, in Toronto. My interest and connection to Roncesvalles Village stems from my Polish heritage—it is also my birthplace. Through an autobiographical perspective I will use photography, archives, testimonials and a website to explore Polish culture, immigration, and the formation of a community. I will use critical and creative frameworks to draw upon theoretical, historical, and poetic material.
